Chandigarh has been home to a lot of cricket players who are known all over the world. Many famous people live in “the City Beautiful,” Kapil Dev, Yograj Singh (and his son Yuvraj Singh), Ashok Malhotra, Chetan Sharma, Siddharth Kaul, and Siddharth Kaul. But there is one name that, even though you might not know it as well as the others, is just as important, if not more important. According to the latest cricket news, the wicketkeeper who is thought to be the best choice for the Indian women’s cricket team is Taniya Bhatia.
Taniya Bhatia was born on November 28, 1997, in India. She was born in the city of Chandigarh, which is in the state of Punjab. Her father, Sanjay Bhatia, and her uncle, who is also her cousin, both played wicketkeeper and batted for their teams. She went after them both. He took his first swing with a bat when he was only four years old. Her father played for All India University and went on to work in finance after he graduated.
When they went on a normal trip, Sanjay saw her skill and realized she had a lot of potentials. Everyone in his family, but especially his wife, was shocked when he quickly signed up their daughter for a nearby school. Taniya’s goal at the cricket academy was to become a wicketkeeper her father and grandfather.

Taniya, on the other hand, was able to convince her father to change his mind with the help of her coach. She never got tall enough to be a good bowler or all-rounder, so it turned out that making that choice was the right one.
- Domestic
After four years at Singh’s school, Taniya tried out for jobs in Punjab in the hopes of finding one. She joined Punjab’s Under-19 team when she was only 12 years old. Almost right away, she became a superstar and set a record that is still held today. The next year, she played so well that she was put on the senior team for her state, which is coached by RP Singh.
- Down Fall
Because of this, she became less popular in Indian society. Taniya was hurt by something she couldn’t do anything about. So much so that she was almost ready to stop caring about cricket. Aside from that, her legal status in the state was also in question. Bhatia’s sadness kept getting worse, so he stopped going to the gym he used to.
Taniya’s mother, Sapna, on the other hand, was a rock of consistency and an important source of emotional support throughout the ordeal. When Taniya was 18, Sapna and her older daughter would often encourage and push her to keep practicing.
Taniya did some soul-searching after she realized that her family loved and accepted her even though she had some flaws. She said that when she was at her worst, she wondered if her work was good enough for her to be called up to India’s national team. Taniya made a list of all the things in her life that needed to be better, and getting in better shape was at the top of the list.
- Rise and Return
She got her strength back and quickly realized that her real calling was somewhere else. Taniya would always go as far as she could and give everything she had to whatever she was working on. And everything went on as usual from there. Taniya still looks up to her parents as good, and she often calls them her “life coaches.” Because of this, she gives them credit for everything she has done so far and everything she will do in the future.
Taniya got better quickly and has become an important part of the Punjab senior team. In 2015, she was the captain of the Under-19 North Zone cricket team, which she led to victory at the inter-zone competition in Guwahati.
- T20
Taniya got his big break in January 2018, when he was chosen to play in the series against South Africa. He was then 20 years old. Since she was a little girl, she looked up to Mithali Raj as a sports legend, so it was a dream come true for her to compete with her.
India’s top order had already won the game by seven wickets before she came in, so she didn’t have to bat. India’s top order had already won the game before she came in. India’s best opener leads the team out, even though he bats much lower in the order for Punjab. Because of this, she had a very small chance of even playing the game, let alone affecting it in any way if she did.
- 2018 ICC Women’s World T20
India did very well at the 2018 ICC Women’s World T20, and Taniya Bhatia was a big part of that. Even though Taniya’s batting average wasn’t the best, she proved herself to be a reliable player behind the wickets. She won the competition by taking 11 wickets, which was more than any other wicketkeeper (9 stumpings and 2 catches).
- 2020 ICC Women’s World T20
Taniya Bhatia has been chosen to be one of India’s 15 players for the Women’s World Twenty20. The wicket-keeper-batswoman played in every match of the competition, from the early rounds to the finals.
During the team’s first win in the group stage, a 2-1 win over Australia, Taniya’s play was praised. A lot of her fans have compared her to MS Dhoni, who was the captain of the Indian cricket team in the past. Even so, she got there so late in the game that it wouldn’t have mattered if she had batted or not.
- ODI
Even though Taniya was picked for the trip to South Africa in February of that year, she didn’t get to play in her first one-day international until September of that year. Bhatia’s best performance in a one-day international was against Sri Lanka when she hit 68 out of 66 runs to help India win. It was the best thing she had ever done.
Taniya joined the India Women’s team at Wankhede on February 22, 2019, when they were behind by 90 runs and 5 wickets and needed a replacement. She finally joined up with the team’s captain, Mithali Raj, and the two of them were very tough opponents. Taniya’s 25 runs off of 37 balls helped India past the 200-run mark and get closer to winning. The Blue Women kept up their strong play, and in the end, they won the game.
